چکیده

In this study, we investigated the interdecadal variability in monsoon rainfall Myanmar region. The gauge-based gridded dataset of Global Precipitation Climatology Centre (GPCC) and Climatic Research Unit version TS4.0 (CRU TS4.0) were used (1950–2019) to investigate summer using empirical orthogonal function (EOF), singular value decomposition (SVD), correlation approaches. results reveal relatively negative anomalies during 1980s, 1990s, 2000s, whereas strong positive identified for 1970s 2010s. dominant spatial mode showed a dipole pattern with total variance 47%. power spectra principal component (PC) from EOF revealed significant peak decadal timescales (20–30 years). positively correlated Atlantic multidecadal oscillation (AMO) negatively Pacific (PDO). that extreme (flood) events occurred phase PDO below-average (drought) PDO. cold (warm phase) AMO was generally associated (positive) rainfall. first SVD indicated warm AMO, suggesting enhanced about 53% square covariance fraction related heavy rain over study region except central eastern parts. second demonstrated sea surface temperature (SST) equatorial (El Niño pattern) SST North Ocean, implying deficit 33% fraction, which could be dry El conditions (drought). third SSTs (La Niña caused enhance 6.7% flood conditions. Thus, extra-subtropical phenomena may affect average trends by enhancing cross-equatorial moisture trajectories into Ocean.

On the Variability and Prediction of Rainfall in the Post-monsoon Season over India

Considerable rainfall occurs in India during the post-monsoon period from October to December, particularly over north-eastern, eastern and southern regions, and this is of great significance in agricultural and allied sectors. For the first time, we have attempted to provide detailed information on the variability and predictability of the post-monsoon rainfall (PMR) of the country. Details on...

Interdecadal Changes in the ENSO–Monsoon System

The El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) and Indian monsoon are shown to have undergone significant interdecadal changes in variance and coherency over the last 125 years. Wavelet analysis is applied to indexes of equatorial Pacific sea surface temperature (Niño3 SST), the Southern Oscillation index, and all-India rainfall. Time series of 2–7-yr variance indicate intervals of high ENSO–monsoon v...

Subseasonal-to-interdecadal variability of the Australian monsoon over North Queensland

Daily rainfall occurrence and amount at 11 stations over North Queensland are examined for summers 1958– 1998, using a Hidden Markov Model (HMM). Daily rainfall variability is described in terms of the occurrence of five discrete ‘weather states’, identified by the HMM. Three states are characterized respectively by very wet, moderately wet, and dry conditions at most stations; two states have ...

Probabilistic trend of anomalous summer rainfall in Beijing: Role of interdecadal variability

[1] The interdecadal variability of summer precipitation in Beijing from 1724 to 2005 is analyzed using a filter, keeping the true trends at time series ends. A probability distribution, Pearson type III, was applied to the summer precipitation series to estimate the probability of anomalous rainfall. This study includes the correlation between the interdecadal variations of the summer precipit...
